Replacing the 48V to 12V DC-DC converter (also known as the Generator Control Module or GCM) on a Land Rover MHEV is a moderately involved job. This overview outlines the general process.<\/p>\n

Step 1: System De-energization and Safety<\/h3>\n

This is the most critical step.<\/strong> While 48V is lower than a full EV, it can still deliver a dangerous shock.<\/p>\n

  1. Turn the ignition off and remove the key from the vehicle.<\/li>\n
  2. Disconnect the negative terminal of the 12V battery in the rear compartment and secure it.<\/li>\n
  3. Locate the 48V MHEV battery (often under a front seat or in the cargo area) and follow the specific JLR procedure to de-energize the 48V system. This usually involves a service disconnect plug.<\/li>\n
