Map Update Failed? Troubleshooting Common Land Rover Navigation Errors

A Land Rover map update, whether via USB or Pivi Pro's OTA, can sometimes fail. This troubleshooting guide covers the most common errors and their solutions.

Problem 1: ‘USB Not Recognized' or ‘No Update Files Found' (InControl)

This is the most common issue with USB-based updates.

  • Improperly Formatted USB: Ensure your USB stick is formatted to FAT32 or exFAT. NTFS will not work.
  • Files Copied Manually: You cannot just drag and drop the downloaded map files. You MUST use the official JLR Map Downloader desktop application to prepare the USB stick. This tool creates a specific file structure the car needs to see.
  • Faulty USB Stick or Port: Try a different, high-quality USB stick. Also, try a different USB port in your vehicle.

Problem 2: Update Freezes or Fails Midway Through (InControl)

  • Engine Turned Off: The vehicle's engine must be running for the entire duration of the update. If the engine is turned off, the system loses power and the update will fail, potentially corrupting the system. You may need to restart the process.
  • Corrupt Download: If your internet connection was interrupted during the download, the files may be corrupt. Delete the files from your computer and the USB, and re-download them.

Problem 3: Pivi Pro Maps Are Not Updating Automatically (OTA)

  • Connectivity/Permissions Off: Double-check that Mobile Data and Software Update permissions are enabled in your Pivi settings.
  • No Cellular Signal: The car cannot download updates if it's in an underground garage or an area with no cell service. Drive to an area with good reception or connect to Wi-Fi.
  • Expired Subscription: Log into your InControl account online to confirm your Connected Navigation subscription is active.

Problem 4: ‘Not Enough Space' Error

This can happen on older systems. It means the internal memory of the navigation unit is full. In some cases, this may require a dealer visit to clear old files, but a system reset may sometimes help. Proceed with caution.

By following these steps, you can resolve most common map update issues. If problems persist, a diagnostic check at a JLR specialist may be needed.
